Electronic Arts announced today that it has hired Portal and Left 4 Dead designer Kim Swift. She will join EA’s new work as a design director for an unspecified project.
Swift worked at Valve for more than four years, from 2005-2009. She was the lead designer, environment artist, and project lead for the first Portal. After that, she worked on Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 as an environment artist and level designer.
Swift left Valve to join Airtight Games, which made Quantum Conundrum and Murdered: Soul Suspect before closing in 2014. After Airtight, Swift spent nearly three years at Amazon Game Studios as a senior designer, working on “secret things.”
Motive Studios is being headed up by Jade Raymond, who worked on the Assassin’s Creed series at Ubisoft before joining EA in summer 2015. The team is working alongside DICE on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and is collaborating with Visceral on a mysterious Star Wars game with former Uncharted writer/director Amy Hennig. Looking further out, Motive is developing a “gigantic” action game.
