Yo-kai Watch 2 Finally Coming To Europe

Yo-kai Watch 2, the 3DS-exclusive JRPG, has finally received a European release date. Publisher Nintendo has announced that the game will arrive in Europe on April 7.

Yo-kai Watch 2 first came out in Japan in July 2016, before a North American launch in September of that year. Now, European players will finally get to give it a try. According to Nintendo, the original Yo-kai Watch sold faster in Europe than it did in Japan.

The sequel is split into two versions: Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits, and Yo-kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls. Each version includes five exclusive yo-kai creatures, which you can then trade locally or online.

Although we enjoyed the original Yo-kai Watch, we thought the sequel didn’t do enough to progress the series. “The game feels old hat,” said Alexa Ray Corriea in our Yo-kai Watch 2 review.

The franchise has often been compared to Pokemon, for both its critter-collecting elements and now its trading functionality between two versions. The latest mainline Pokemon games, Pokemon Sun and Moon, released in November 2016 to critical acclaim. The pair broke records around the world, and are rumored to be getting a third version for Nintendo Switch.
