Bryan Cranston Talks Possibility of Malcom in the Middle Movie

Bryan Cranston has discussed the possibility of a Malcom in the Middle movie. The actor, who played Hal on the Fox sitcom, said in a Reddit AMA that there have been “some conversations” about adapting the show for the big screen. Fans of the show may not want to get their hopes up, however.

I don’t know if or when that could happen,” Cranston said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I guess we have to gauge the temperament of the fans to see if it’s something they want. But maybe. It would be fun to play with all those people again.”

Cranston’s comments came in an AMA for his newest movie, Why Him?, which also stars James Franco as a billionaire video game developer. In the online Q&A, Cranston said him returning to Malcom in the Middle would be like Franco playing his Freaks and Geeks character again.

After Cranston said it would be “cool” if there was a Freaks and Geeks movie, Franco said, “Maybe for Freaks and Geeks it could be the 20-year high school reunion! I don’t know if my character would go to the reunion though. Maybe he just never left town.”

Freaks and Geeks ran for just one season, in 1999/2000. Malcom in the Middle was on TV for seven seasons, wrapping up in 2006. The show also starred Frankie Muniz as Malcom, as well as Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Erik Per Sullivan.
