Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has shipped 2.5 million copies to retail, says publisher Capcom, bringing the series as a whole to the 75 million sales mark.
Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are Capcom’s best-selling games ever, with 7.1 million and 6.6 million sales respectively. These have had considerably longer on the market, however.
Biohazard launched on January 24. The publisher has called the game’s sales so far a “solid start.” It will be hoping for more in the coming weeks, however: it expected Resident Evil 7 to sell 4 million copies before the end of the financial year (March 31, 2017). It should be noted that the 2.5 million figure refers to copies shipped to retail–the precise number sold through to customers remains unclear.
The game launched this week to critical acclaim. We called it “a remarkable success” in our Resident Evil 7: Biohazard review. For more on the long-running survival horror franchise, check out our two-part Resident Evil documentary series.
In addition to Resident Evil 7, the franchise’s latest movie, The Final Chapter, was released this week. The film’s star, Milla Jovovich, says it is definitely the last entry–for her character Alice, at least. GameSpot has seen the movie; see what we thought in our Resident Evil: The Final Chapter review. We’ve also ranked every Resident Evil movie, from worst to best.
